What is Pilates

Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates and it is practiced worldwide, especially in Western countries such as the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Australia. Joseph Pilates presented his method as the art of controlled movements.  If practiced with consistency, Pilates will help to improve your flexibility, strength, control and endurance in your entire body.  This helps to improve your overall fitness and well-being.

 

Pilates is suitable for all ages & fitness levels from beginner to elite athlete. Pilates classes are a fun way to exercise and improve your fitness and health.

 

Can Anyone Do Pilates?

 

Pilates can be modified from a gentle strength training program to a challenging workout. It is suitable both for beginners and for people who already exercise regularly.  If you have any injuries, please mention them to your instructor so that they can adjust the exercises to suit your needs.  You can even do Pilates if you are pregnant.  Again, just let your instructor know so that they can modify where needed.
 

Be prepared though - you'll find that this type of exercise is quite addictive, but that is a good thing!
